A wonderful site " Blumau SPA" where, inside a park, there's a famous SPA with an interesting and unique architecture!

Students' Austrian report

We are three guys who Went to visit the spa in Austria. We Went by bus to a hotel, the entrance of which Was a walking path, where one could many kinds of vegetation. Moreover, you could also see the outer structures of these baths, Which were very colorful and well made. Inside the main entrance of the hotel there Was a plastic model of the whole structure and its graphical representation, allowing the identification of each of its component. After having described the model of the spa, the guides have talked about their birth: they have been built by the architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser about 70 years ago, to enable the population to take advantage of the natural resources of the area. One of these resources is the water coming from the underground volcanic activity, Which is curative. In addition, the spa offers pools, a Jacuzzi, etc. In the spa, the guests have the possibility to stay and eat their meals in a magnificent restaurant. Visiting this spa we have realized how many wonderful benefits are widespread in Europe, and to which extent they are important for nowadays medicine.

On 11th February our school went to visit an important archeological site in AciCatena (Ct),
Santa Venera al Pozzo SPA.
Giorno 11 Febbraio la nostra scuola , insieme all'Istituto " Fermi " di Catania, ha visitato un importantissimo sito archeologico termale, Santa Venera al Pozzo che si trova ad Aci Catena, in contrada Reitana, presso la proprietà Floristella.

Il sito rileva per i resti degli insediamenti termali romani che vi si trovano. Qui affiora una sorgente d'acqua sulfurea, salso-bromo-jodica (leggermente radioattiva) proveniente dalle viscere del vulcano Etna e sfruttata dalle moderne terme di Acireale.

Secondo la tradizione fu decapitata in questo luogo Santa Venera, durante le persecuzioni contro i cristiani^[1]. La sua testa fu gettata dai soldati romani nel pozzo delle acque termali e durante il medioevo la storia di questo crudele martirio era molto popolare. La gente notava che, bagnando il capo con l'acqua del pozzo, passava il mal di testa e che, immergendo un panno bianco, questo si tingeva di rosso. Si credette, così, che quello fosse il sangue della Santa e che l'acqua fosse miracolosa. In realtà i panni si coloravano di rosso per la presenza del bromo in un'acqua dalle proprietà terapeutiche che la gente allora non conosceva dal momento che le terme romane erano state dimenticate.

Terme della Rotonda

Le Terme della Rotonda sono delle terme romane site nel centro storico di Catania, non lontane dall'Odéon. Risalgono al II-III secolo.

Le terme hanno base circolare e sono sormontate da una copertura a forma di cupola che poggia su spesse mura. Nello spessore delle mura sono inserite otto vasche di marmo. Canali per l'adduzione delle acque e per lo scarico sono ancora visibili così come un calidarium ed un frigidarium.
